What we fix

Real problems, real fixes

Sewer line repair is the right call when a specific section of your main line has failed, not when the line simply needs cleaning. The common failures are root intrusion at a joint, a cracked section, an offset joint from soil settling, and damage from shifting ground. A camera inspection tells us which one you have and where it sits, so we are not guessing at scope or digging where we do not need to.

Where your home sits changes the job. Older South Scottsdale and Old Town properties, many of them 1950s and 1960s ranch homes, have shorter runs to the main but the oldest pipe in the city and decades of mature landscaping sitting directly over the line. McCormick Ranch and Gainey Ranch fall mid-curve. On larger-lot properties in Troon and Desert Mountain, the run to the main can be considerably longer, which means more line to inspect.

One thing worth knowing before you get a quote: under Scottsdale's wastewater standards, the property owner is responsible for maintaining the sanitary sewer service line, including the wye connection to the public main. The repair is usually yours even when the failure sits out near the street, which often means the work crosses into the city right-of-way.

We repair with traditional open-trench excavation or trenchless methods and we walk you through the pros, cons, and costs of each.

Pricing Range

How much does sewer line repair cost in Scottsdale?

Pricing depends on where the damage sits, how deep the line runs, the repair method, and how much surface restoration is required. We keep the full current range on our main sewer line repair page, and the figure you see there is what we lock in during your on-site diagnostic.

Low: $300

Average: $1,000

High: $6,000

Honest range based on real recent jobs. Final price is locked in during your on-site diagnostic — what you see is what you pay.

What factors affect the cost of a Scottsdale sewer repair?

  1. What sits on top of the line

Access drives cost more than almost anything else. A line under turf or decorative rock is straightforward. A line under a paver driveway, pool deck, or thirty years of mature landscaping is a different number once removal and restoration are counted. We map this before quoting.

  2. Trenchless vs. open-trench

Trenchless costs more per foot but spares hardscape and landscape. On a straightforward run, open-trench is faster and cheaper. On a long lateral crossing a driveway, or an Old Town lot with mature trees over the line, trenchless often wins once restoration is counted.

  3. Whether the work reaches the right-of-way

A single offset joint mid-yard is a contained repair. A failure near the wye connection means excavating in or near the city right-of-way, which adds a permit, an approved traffic control plan, utility locates, city inspection, and pavement restoration. We price that up front rather than adding it later.

Diagnostic & Estimates

Every sewer repair starts with a camera inspection documenting the damage location, scope, and recommended approach. You get the footage and a written report, and the diagnostic cost is applied to the repair when you move forward with us.

Repair or Replace

Spot repair or full replacement. Here's how to think about it.

Most sewer problems are localized, and a targeted repair is the right answer. But when the camera shows failure in multiple places, or a deep belly, the math usually points toward replacing the line instead of chasing sections of it.

A spot repair typically makes sense when:

  • The camera shows one clear defect: a single crack, offset joint, or root intrusion point

  • The rest of the line is in serviceable condition

  • The failure is accessible without extensive surface demolition

Replacement makes sense if…

  • There are multiple failures along the length of the line
  • The pipe is at the end of its service life and showing widespread deterioration
  • Cleaning keeps resolving backups only temporarily
  • Line grade has settled enough that flow problems will recur regardless of patching

What to Expect

Our sewer line repair process in three steps

The same three-step rhythm on every job. Diagnose first, price up front, then do the work and stand behind it.

1

Step 1: Camera inspection and written plan

We run a sewer camera to locate and scope the damage precisely. You get the footage, a written report, and your options priced separately: spot repair, trenchless, or full replacement. Nothing gets scheduled until you see what we see.

2

Step 2: Permits, locates, and prep

Once you approve the plan, we pull permits, schedule city inspection, and coordinate access. Work touching the Scottsdale right-of-way also needs a right-of-way permit and an approved traffic control plan. We call 811 for utility locations before excavation, and for open-trench work we mark the exact footprint before we break ground.

3

Step 3: Repair, test, inspect, and restore

We complete the repair, test the line for proper flow, and have the work inspected and approved where required. Open-trench areas are backfilled and rough graded, and we can coordinate landscape or hardscape restoration depending on the scope of the project.

Testimonial

"Friendly, professional, knowledgeable."

“Amazing company. My house is older and full of quirks and unexpected problems, and Superstition Plumbing has always been incredibly responsive and helpful every time I've needed them. Sewer line cracked? No problem. Valves frozen in place, hose spigot spraying uncontrollably, or lines clogged? No problem. Everyone is friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and they arrive exactly when they say they will. 11/10 would recommend.”

Pro Tip

Sewer work at the curb: what Scottsdale homeowners should know before they dig.

Sewer repairs have a wrinkle most plumbing jobs do not: the failure is often out near the street, putting the work partly on your property and partly in the public right-of-way. Because Scottsdale holds the owner responsible for the service line all the way to the wye connection, that stretch under the sidewalk is still your repair, and it carries a separate layer of process.

That work requires its own permit, an approved traffic control plan, advance notice to city inspection services, and 811 locates, and pavement cuts carry their own restoration standards. None of that is a reason to avoid the repair. It is a reason to be skeptical of a quote that treats a curb-adjacent sewer job the same as one mid-backyard, a quote that leaves those items out is not a lower price, just an incomplete one.
